College is Becoming More and More Fun! (I hope it lasts... ^_^)

This morning I spent some time catching up on some fanfics that I had received story alerts but hadn't gotten around to reading them. That was very relaxing way to spend the morning with breakfast in bed. ^_^

Naomi drove Maki and I to campus for our 10:45 English class. A few students didn't show up but on the most part, everyone came to class. We all got back our papers we had written last week about our writing experiences; Maki and I were both told we wrote very well! After doing some freewriting, we read a chapter from a book called 75 Readings. It was a chapter about how to begin planning and drafting; afterwards, we had like a time of discussion. Having the discussion was lots of fun; we're all sitting in a kind of a circle so we had to go around saying what we thought of the text. It was funny because these two guys were commenting on my comments and I commented back. So I commented on their commenting on my comment. :P We might have gone on but the teacher wanted everyone to have a chance to speak.

We got our first essay assignment for English which is going to be due in a few weeks. Sounds like a fun experience; either write on A Personal Experience or Three Foods You Like. I'll probably stick to A Personal Experience. :P

Class finished and I wanted to walk home so after Maki agreed, we did just that. It's such a pleasant walk and I'm getting a little used to Hawaii weather. I actually was able to survive walking outside in the middle of the day in long jeans! Amazing...

After getting home, had a simple lunch while watching Full House with everyone. Very cute episodes, especially with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olson a bit older so that they have more lines. ^_^

Before going to Math class, both Maki and I went over our math homework a bit. :P Just in case we missed something. Erin took us to class this time and though we were perhaps ten minutes ahead of time, the room was already pretty full though Maki and I were able to get seats closer to the front this time. Before class started I was able to talk a bit with two other students. Sooo NOT math people since they didn't seem to have any clue about the homework or math studies. :P Mr. Astromoff taught us about sets and subsets which I knew a little bit about already so it wasn't too demanding. I'm actually liking math so far; some may find it difficult to imagine but I do like problem solving. I think another reason I'm enjoying math right now is the fact that I have a math teacher. Having to study and figure out yourself is completely different from actually having a teacher.

Since math can finish a bit early since the last 30 minutes is like a free time for us to work in our handbooks and ask questions if we have any, Maki and I parted ways and I headed for the chapel for ballet class. It was really interesting because I went in and came face to face with Nichelle from my English class! We immediately recognized each other and it was like, "Aren't you in my English class?" :P Very funny that we've gone to two English classes and one ballet class and we didn't make the connection till right then. ^_^ She and her friend, Rachel, and I got to talk a bit and I really liked the both of them.

Today's ballet class was more interesting than the first class because we started on the actual physical practices of ballet. Learned tondu and ronde de jambs, en bah and en hau (I've probably spelled all the French terms incorrectly so forgive the mistakes. At least, that's what the words sound like... :P)

After class Erin was waiting to drive me home since her class finished just before mine. Got home and did my math homework in the living room. Interesting math questions though there's one questions I don't get... maybe you guys can help?

Questions: In the set of {1,{1}}, how many elements are in the set, one or two? Hmmm... I'm thinking it's two because an element of a set is defined by the objects inside the set. The number '1' naturally counts as one element, shouldn't the subset {1} inside the set be considered another element? If you have any thoughts on this (or the answer!), I'd appreciate them!

Both Naomi and Erin were gone (Naomi for sign dance practice, Erin for class) so Maki and I rummaged through leftovers to prepare our own dinners. I ended up with rice, salad, carrots in dip, a drumstick, and an omelette. Yummm...!

Maki went to do some homework and I watched Moonlighting for a bit. Naomi came home and joined me for a bit. All I can say is that Bruce Willis is soooooo young...

I got to talk to both my parents on the phone for quite a bit which is always tons of fun! I get to hear about what's going on in Japan, both at home and church. And hearing about the dogs is always fun! Seems there's a typhoon approaching Japan. Poor dogs are probably going to be scared. Awww...

Well, it's getting late since I've been taking a long time writing this blog while doing several other random things. ^_^

In honor of Sean Connery's birthday (75 years old... whoah), here are a few of his quotes (real life quotes, not movie quotes):

"There is one big difference between James Bond and me... he is able to sort out problems!"

"Perhaps I'm not a good actor, but I would be even worse at doing anything else."

"I am not an Englishman, I was never an Englishman, and I don't ever want to be one. I am a Scotsman! I was a Scotsman and I will always be one."

Hurray for Sean Connery's birthday! And hurray for his 'I am a Scotsman!" comment! Wow, he's 75?! He looks way younger...he's still cool even now. ^_^ Aaaah, college must be interesting and your comments on it makes studying actually sound like fun! Though it probably is in college. School starting soon...yay and groan at the same time.

Oh yeah, I have no clue about your math problem. :P So maybe wait till Tsubasa or someone else comments. :D

Dear College Girl,

It's been over 30 years since I studied sets, but...

A set is: a number of things naturally connected by location, formation, or order in time

a subset is: a portion of a set

an element is: Each item inside a set

So... 1 is the one and only element of the set, the same element of the subset, so there is only one element in the set (1,{1}). I suspect that this is a brain-teaser designed to make freshmen (and freshwomen?) use their heads. (or just ask someone who took the class last semester) ;-) Please let the whole world know the answer!

Love in Christ Jesus, Daddy
